Jewellery Care Guide

Jewellery is a handcrafted piece of art and should be treated with care to preserve its beauty and energy. Follow these care instructions to keep it looking its best:

  • Cleaning & Maintenance: Cleanse your jewellery with warm water and mild soap, using a soft cloth or brush to remove any buildup. Avoid exposure to lotions, perfumes, and harsh chemicals, as these can dull the metal and gemstones.

  • Proper Storage: When not in use, store your jewellery in a dry place, preferably in a soft pouch or a jewellery bag like provided with separate compartments to prevent scratches and tangling.

  • Energy Renewal: If your piece contains gemstones, recharge them by placing them in moonlight or sunlight, depending on their properties, to maintain their vibrational energy.

Metal-Specific Care:

  • Sterling Silver & Brass: These metals can naturally oxidize over time. To restore their shine, gently polish with the soft cloth provided. Keep them dry and store them in an airtight bag when not in use to slow down tarnishing.

  • Solid Gold: Gold is highly durable but can still scratch over time. Store separately from other jewellery to prevent surface damage and clean occasionally with the soft cloth provided or mild jewellery cleaner to maintain its natural brilliance.

  • Gold-Plated Jewellery: To prolong the life of gold plating, avoid direct contact with moisture, perfumes, and lotions. After wearing, gently wipe it with a soft cloth to remove any residue and store in a fabric-lined box or pouch.

If your jewellery requires re-polishing, re-oxidizing, re plating or repairs over time, I am happy to assist for a fee.

FAQs

How long does it take to craft a jewellery piece?

Each piece of jewellery is lovingly handcrafted by me, a sole artisan who pours care, intention, and energy into every design. Most pieces are made to order, ensuring they receive the time and love they deserve.

For made-to-order items, I kindly ask for 2–6 weeks to complete your piece, in busier periods allow up to 10 weeks. Gold jewellery, by law, must be hallmarked, which involves an additional step at the Assay Office and can take up to 7 days. For other metals, crafting may take around two weeks, but during busier periods, it could extend to six weeks. Bespoke orders will have an agreed timeline depending on their complexity.

International Orders & Customs Fees

For customers placing orders from outside the UK, please be aware that you are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, or import fees that may apply upon delivery. These charges are determined by your country's regulations and are not included in the purchase price or shipping costs.

I recommend checking with your local customs office for more information on potential charges before placing your order.

How do I find my ring size?

To ensure a perfect fit, I recommend visiting a jeweller to measure your ring size accurately or purchasing a ring sizer. My pieces are crafted using the UK sizing system.

If your ring needs resizing, whether it’s one of my own designs or a treasured piece from elsewhere, I offer a professional resizing service at my studio. Prices start from £50, with additional costs for more complex pieces or those with gemstones that may need to be removed and reset. For more information, please get in touch at info@thefloatingjeweller.co.uk

Do you work with precious stones?
